- Brush regularly but not aggressively
It is recommended to brush twice daily using a soft bristle toothbrush. More frequency of brushing may cause tooth abrasions, therefore two times in a day has been proven to be a healthy practice. The brushing is performed using vertical or circular strokes. Avoid horizontal strokes to prevent gum damage.
- Include Tongue Scrapper
Your tongue requires scrapping too. The tongue surface gathers a lot of food debris, bacteria and fungus throughout the day; therefore, a tongue scrapper proves very helpful in removing this plaque and giving you a great sense of cleanliness.
- Mouthwash is must
Rinsing mouth with a mouthwash containing Chlorhexidine is always recommended to promote gums health and prevent tooth decay. Use a mouthwash religiously preferably post your meals.
- Change your toothbrush frequently
It is advised to change toothbrush atleast after every six months. However, if the bristles wear-out frequently, then you can consider changing the brush every four months as well.
- Drink more water
Frequent water intake not only helps in your body hydration but has also proven to be beneficial for the oral health. More number of sips of water help in maintaining a higher pH value in the oral environment, which acts against those acid generating, decay causing bacteria.
- Consume a Fibrous diet
Consuming more fibrous diet helps in maintaining oral hygiene as it is a self-cleansing diet. The fibrous foods like fruits don’t adhere to the tooth surface. While, food involving starch or sugar may adhere to the tooth surface requiring a brushing post meal.
- Consider quitting habits.
It is always an advice to stop smoking or tobacco consumption habit, as it is not only harmful for your oral health but also injurious to your life.
- Visit a dentist regularly
It is truly said “A stitch in time, saves nine”.
One visit in every six months to a dentist is very strongly recommended to keep track of your oral well-being!
