The chart shows the sequence of eruption (coming in) and shedding off (falling out) of the primary/deciduous/milk teeth in children.
This is a general guide, and the eruption time may vary from child to child.
Important points to note-
- For every six months of life of a child, approximately four teeth would erupt.
- A complete set of primary teeth is present in the mouth from 2.5-3 years of age, which stays till 6-7 years of age.
- Girls precede Boys in the teeth eruption schedule.
- Teeth eruption usually begins in the lower jaw.
- Primary teeth are smaller in size than the Permanent teeth.
- By the time a child is 2-3 years of his/her age, all the primary teeth should have erupted.
- It is perfectly normal to notice space in-between the teeth after 4 years of age, due to the growth of the jaws.
- Between the ages of 6 and 12, a mixture of both primary teeth and permanent teeth are present in the mouth.
- Consult a Dentist when the primary teeth fall out prematurely (before the scheduled time), because it would disrupt the space for the permanent counterparts, hence altering the arch form.
- Usually, first permanent teeth to erupt in mouth are the first molars.
- By the age of 13, 28 permanent teeth erupt in the mouth.
- Consult a Dentist when a deciduous tooth is retained/not fallen/ not shed and moreover its permanent counterpart has also emerged in the oral cavity.
